Endonyms written in the Latin alphabet are reproduced as such, including diacritics (like the Czech haček) and non-common letters (like the Icelandic ∂).

For endonyms written in non-Latin alphabets, the international transliteration standards are used, applying the BGN/PCGN romanization systems. For IdEnt the following systems have been used:

Abkhazian: BGN/PCGN 2016

Belarusian: BGN/PCGN 1979

Georgian: BGN/PCGN 2009 [= National:2011]

Russian: British Standard 2979:1958

Rusyn / Ruthenian: BGN/PCGN 2016

Ukrainian: BGN/PCGN 2019
